how do chev's and dodge's diesel drivetrains compare to each other? I guess it would be the

6.6L duramax w/6spd allison auto, 3.73

vs

6.7L cummins turbo w/5spd manual, 3.42

does one have more longevity? better fuel mileage? any known issues with these drivetrains? I see the chev has no turbo and no manual trans...

well I did some reading over at dieselpowermag.com, and the dodge gets better fuel mileage, and ppl claim the powerplant will have the superior longevity since there are fewer moving parts. The higher mileage engines on that forum seem to be just over 500000 miles...at least the members who post.

seems the rest of these trucks fall apart long before the drivetrain has any problems lol Just like my VW!!!

Oh, as for ford...great reviews on the body, but the drivetrain seems to have lots of problems..

And another thing to look at is maintenace if you're doing the work yourself-supposedly duramaxes are a pita to work on

just motor probs on the fords but that is a easy fix. the dodge motor will out last all othere its a inline 6. and the chev does have a turbo. but everthing on the dodge will break besides the motor

unless your driving and towing alot they are not worth while, the fuel mileage isn't that of a vw and the maintenance is not cheap....go price an oil change.
